If you are a new mother, it may be difficult to leave the house for an appointment in a clinic. The same goes for people who are unwell, who are isolating due to COVID-19, who are far away, or those who are travelling.

We are pleased to be able to cater to your needs and provide online or virtual appointments, so you can receive your Occupational Therapy from the comfort of your own home. These appointments are through a video platform, so we can see you and you can see us. We can guide you through your rehabilitation program, provide injury prevention advice and help you reach your therapy goals.

After you book your online appointment, we will send you a link inviting you to the video call at the chosen time. There is no need to download any software. Once you follow this link, you will enter an online waiting room with very clear instructions until the therapist allows you into her “virtual” therapy room.

During your online appointment, if you are new to our service, your therapist will take a detailed account of your problem and she may even ask you to perform some tests to assess your condition.  If you are known to us, your therapist will review your progress and discuss in detail the next steps to take in your home program. Our therapists will teach you what you can do at home.

HOW CAN I PREPARE?

To be in an online consultation, you will need to use your computer, laptop or tablet device. We currently use a program called COVIU to conduct online video consults which will require an internet connection during the session. You can prepare / pre-test your technology prior to the appointment with the instructions from COVIU if you click here. Make sure you find a place that is comfortable for you and wear clothing that you can move in. I don’t mind if your kids are around if you don’t, but you will get the most from your appointment if you are sitting in a relatively quiet place. If you would like to show me your work or nursery set-up at home, it would be ideal if you use a portable device such as a laptop or tablet if you have one. Please also ensure you have any relevant paperwork e.g. referral or scan results with you at the time of the appointment.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

We offer initial consultations online as well as follow-up consultations. We are currently offering a reduced rate. An initial consultation for 45 minutes will cost $85 (1hour=$100). Follow up appointments that go for 30 minutes will cost $65. During the online appointment, you will be charged via online secure payment option (Stripe) for Credit Card. An invoice will be sent to you via email after your appointment.

Bulk-billing may be available if you have a CDM (Chronic Disease Management) referral from a GP. If you have a private health fund, you will need to check with your fund prior to the appointment if they will reimburse you for some of the consultation.

WHAT IF I HAVE A QUESTION AFTER THE APPOINTMENT?

You are free to contact your therapist with any questions or if you need to clarify something from the appointment. You can email thehandsofmothers@gmail.com or call 0492 867 653 during work hours or leave a message at any time for a therapist to return your call.
